Description
This magnificent paddle steamer displaces a mind-boggling 630,000 pounds and caries 8,500 gallons of water.
There are six crew cabins and four ladies’ and seven gents’ heads aboard. She has two decks that hold five salons with giant picture windows through which up to 600 seated guests can peruse the surroundings, while remaining protected from the elements.
Majesteit is a grand old dame that mixes her old world charm with new world technology and comforts. She is perfect for weddings, corporate parties and general tourist cruising because she exudes a past nautical era full of romance and nostalgia.
She was built in 1926, by 1939, there were only 20 Rhine steamers left and by 1970 only six had survived. Today, there are three. The Goethe (which was also built by Sachsenberg and was sunk and then rebuilt four times) continues to work on the Rhine. Another surviving Rhine steamer, Mainz, was built by Christof Ruthof and today serves as a museum ship in Manheim, but Majesteit is an incredibly well preserved, maintained and continuously operated genuine Paddle Steamer!
Okay, so you won’t be river cruising around Europe on Majesteit with just your family, and it’s unlikely anyone will outfit her as a pure live-aboard, although she’d make an amazingly spacious home. However, if running a tourism river boat on a design of which only two operational models have survived sounds like a good business, inquire about this Sachsenberg paddle steamer in the Netherlands. Majesteit is for sale and you can hardly ask for something more unique than this old river queen.
